Jones Treadle Machine - go or no-go?

The clear out continues and gets a bit harder with each bag or box packed up for the charity shop...

On the bubble right now is this Jones treadle sewing machine circa 1890 (looked it up once but have forgotten the exact date.)

It moves freely...

had drawers of parts...

including a manuel...

and fun decals...

but do I need it?  It has been in the garage for several years...but I don't have a treadle machine anymore....urghhhhh....

I'll think it about it tomorrow...

in the mean time I will work non the guild donation quilt.  It is the Kaffee Fassett vase and bowl pattern.  It took me way too long to square up the blocks!  That part is done and I hope to have this out of my studio this week...

continue to find some fun things in the piles like this runner (?)  It is all hand stitched and lays almost flat!  I may just quilt it up...

Well back to work now....

Oh, if I had a treadle, I would find it very hard to part with it! Looks like a beauty! Do you have room for it in your new place, and are you able to use it? Those might help me make a decision.

I am so sad I live so far away from you because you and I could strike a deal on this treadle. I would take reeeeaaaallll good care of it. But alas! It would be too expensive to bring to Canada, lol. Good luck with the decision. Interesting runner. ;^)

I found a great treadle base in a thrift shop recently, and a few antique sewing machines, but have no experience bringing one back to life. Hope you know what you have to face in getting yours up to speed! Nice guild quilt!

Surely you can find a good home nearby for it. Try posting on the Quiltville Facebook site as there are many who would drive miles for this beauty. I would be hard pressed to let those tops go:)

You will need a treadle if the power goes out, during a hurricane.

If it is your only treadle you should try and keep it. It is so beautiful.

Your treadle appears to be a Jones Spool. Jones "adapted" many of Wheeler & Wilson 9/D9 design patents. W&W were the very top of the line US sewing machines. I like the W&W treadles and hand cranks and have collected several of them.
Jones did not manufacture a large number of sewing machines when compared to Singer and White. And only small portion of the Jones sewing machines are the "Spool" sewing machines. I have a Jones Spool in a drawing room cabinet and it's a treasure. Jones sewing machines use a different needle from the Wheeler & Wilsons. My two other Jones machines are hand cranks.
I hope you are able to keep and use your Jones Spool. If not are able to pass it along to someone who appreciates and uses it.
