Another project...

I know, I needed to start a new project. Those bags and boxes of half done quilts and random sewing stuff just aren't enough to keep me busy...that is my story and I'm sticking to it! Anyway, I have been on a finish it kick for several months so pulling out fabric to do something new was just too tempting.
So when Bonnie started posting her Carolina Christmas it was just what I needed to justify a day of fabric rummaging (amazing what I unearthed but that will be in a future post!) I live right on the border between Georgia and South Carolina. When I walk Macbeth along the river I can see S.C. on the other side so a Carolina quilt makes all sorts of sense to me. But of course there is a twist...I am doing it in Pennsylvania colors. My quilt will be in reds, greens, yellows an pinks seen in so many antique quilts from the Pennsylvania area. This quilt was my inspiration for pulling fabrics...no pink or green there you are thinking...well, I put this quilt out every Christmas and think the same thing! In my mind though it is a Christmas quilt. So I thought if I made a quilt that used similar reds and yellows and then added some green then "they" become Christmas quilts. Why the pink...well I like it that is why! And, every quilt needs a bit of surprise in it...

During the past weekend we have been invaded by strange herds of reindeer...hundreds of them. My neighborhood has gone crazy decorating for Christmas. There are large reindeer, small reindeer, some made of wood while others are made of wires, some deer look more like misguided moose, and there is even one that is supposed to be nodding its head grazing but instead does a sort of exorcist head twirl and shimmy that scares the heck out of poor Macbeth. There are so many light I think they could see us from the space station. Now I generally like Christmas decorations but a 15 foot blow-up snowman when it is 70 degrees outside just seems wrong. So I haven't done any decorating outside an only put up a few things indoors...I'm hoping this Christmas quilt gets me in the mood!

I shouldn't laugh at Macbeth being scared but your description is so funny. Good thinking on the Carolina Christmas quilt and LOVE the antique one and your yellow fabrics!!

"Those bags and boxes of half done quilts and random sewing stuff just aren't enough..." is really I need to hear! I love you for this. Well, one of many reasons.

Your yellow and red quilt IS a Christmas Quilt in my mind, too! And I'm excited to know you'll be doing Bonnie's Mystery Quilt. Yeah for you and for us.

Sio,
I could send you some fresh snow to go with that big snowman. LOL
It is snowing here today and the weather is cooling off- We have had a couple of snowfalls in the past weeks but it has melted in the past. Perhaps it will stay this time. Christmas wouldn't feel like Christmas here without any snow on the ground.

Your Christmas quilt will be lovely. The Christmas season is upon us- hope that you have a happy fun filled one.
Warmest regards,
Anna

When in doubt, start a new project, is what I always say! Your colors sound awesome - I can't wait to see it come together.

I, like you, have many UFOs that need attention. But, when I read about Bonnie's Carolina Christmas mystery quilt, I went right out and bought some fabric for it. Now, I have more fabric than I can ever sew up in my lifetime, but out I went with purpose on a buying spree. I must admit, I have few gold fabrics in my stash. When I need them for a project, I buy just enough for that project. I need to cut strips and get started. I see that part two is out already and I don't have step one done yet!

15 ft high blow up snowmen and nodding reindeers. No wonder Mac is scared to go outside! Poor boy probably thinkgs he's going to be kidnapped by aliens!

I'm trying to stop myself from starting any new projects until 2010, bit am having great difficulty.

love that red and yellow project! and I'm not a fan of 10 foot blow up anything, even when there is snow on the ground... Some of those xmas decorations are so hideous... The light s are fun! stick with lights.!
Go get 'em Macbeth! give frosty a bite...

we counted the lighted-mesh reindeer on our block yesterday - there were 13 (14 if you include the earless one that was thrown in a trash can) ... and one gigantic blowup santa ... they don't look as silly here, where there's still snow on the north sides of fences from the last snow fall - and more expected tomorrow

Good for you!! Nothing like a new project to make december festive!

Your description of neighborhood decorations really made me laugh. Our neighborhood looks like Las Vegas with our house remaining dark and unadorned throughout the holidays. We appear to be atheists, when really, we're just too lazy and frugal to put up lights. Good luck with the new project!

Every night as we drive home from school we see more and more lights and decorations going up...hmmm could Christmas be on it's way? It can't come yet...I haven't finished my Christmas tree skirt!!! :o)

Can't blame you for starting another project..I must admit I have resisted temptation to join in...but only just! :o)

I've got half finished project from the '80s and I've not even looked at them in 10 years.

As far as pink goes, I always use pink in all my quilts and have quite a collection of vintage pink and "old looking" pink prints.
