Quilts 2010

I do love lists....not that I always stick to them...I just like making them. So after writing out the shopping list for my Dh this morning (which he left on the kitchen counter when he went to work!) I decided to work on my Quilt list for 2010. These are the quilts I hope to finish this year. Insert Disclaimer Here - this is a non-binding list so if I see a great pattern, have a great idea or just get bored with this list I feel no obligation to stick to it. (Maybe that is why I have never actually finished all the quilts on my annual list?!)

So why make a list at all you wonder? Well, it does help focus a bit. Today while doing my semi-annual "find the floor in the quilting room" dig-out I will put these projects (at least the ones I've started!) into a separate cabinet
so I can find them when the time comes to work on them. Isn't it frustrating when you find a few hours to sew but can't find the project you want to work on?! Also the list serves a reminder of what projects I already have time and money invested in so maybe I don't need to start a new (insert project name here.) Not that it always stops me from doing it but does make me think twice....so here goes:

1. Cowgirl Sampler Quilt - 15 blocks are finished (and have been for 2 years!) 2. Bakery Quilt - this is a Tonya word quilt. I have about 9 words (some I made and some sent by blogging friends.) I want to make about 9 more then figure out how to put them all together...
3. Carolina Christmas - lots of parts in a large box..about the same status as my Carolina Crossroads was at this time last year and I did finish that so there is hope....4. Small Baltimore - Twelve year old Scotch is great. Twelve year old blocks? Not so good. So why this year? There are twelve blocks from my year long Baltimore Applique Class...kismet no?5. Wave Runner - feels almost like cheating to put this on the list since there are only a couple seams left to finish the top....(for reference it is on a really large dining room table...)
6. Vintage Teddington - this one is ready to be basted and hand quilted. This will be my quilt bee and TV room project for the year.
7. My Sister Jane Quilt - no this is not a version of a Dear Jane - I do really have a sister named Jane who asked for a quilt this Christmas. When asked what kind of quilt she answered "I like the ones that look like antiques, maybe some pinks, browns and maroons but make it sort of like bright ones you made the kids." Oh ya, I can run with that...arhhggggg! Status on this one - no fabric, no plan, no clue.....8. Brother Mike Quilt - I made a very long quilt top for my very tall brother. It just needs to be quilted...ya, just!
9. Halloween - This is a "black-work" embroidery. This one is on the fence for this year since it has so much hand work but it is all "kitted" up for me for when I have a minute to work on so may be ready for this year...at least as a top!

In between all of these will be a couple of quilts of valor that are currently in various stages and helping with the guild Donation quilt. More than enough to keep me busy!

You will be busy!
Your projects are fabulous!
I like the last one (or is it Goldie who's drawing my attention to it?).

I love making lists too! and sometimes I follow them-ha. I think they just organize my thoughts. I loved your Dear Jane one, reminds me of the 2 t-shirt quilts I agreed to make for my twin nieces. I agreed and then my sister-in-law said, But I don't want them to look like regular t-shirt quilts!...
Well alrighty then. But I am to use their t-shirts, right??hmmmm.

You go Girl, it sounds like you have a good plan for moving forward in 2010.

I like your idea of listing the quilt projects you want to make in 2010. Never thought of doing this and I am a list maker. I know I want to make a quilt for my younger son, my husband, my mom & dad, and one for ME!!!! not to mention some smaller quilts for our new grand daughter. I must say when I managed to finish my first full size quilt I put myself on a schedule and "chunked" it down day to day and I was able to finish it that way. Thanks for the reminder of "focus" Happy New YEar!!!

wow! quite a list. I'm not even ateempting to publicly list what I need to do, but there's lots. as for your sister, I think she needs to go fabric shopping with you, or you could interpret her request as free reign to do whatever you like -- or make a scrap quilt!

Wow, great quilts! I understand your need for list making...it is very similar to what I get from blogging. It keeps me accountable and having interaction with quilters from all over is so motivating!

i LOVE the disclaimer!

i decided to stop taking "suggestions" from the people who are on the receiving end of my quilts - they can like it or lump it - and if they lump it, then i want it back - ha ha ha!

I'm with Dianne about suggestions from quilt recipients..."like it or lump it"...that is it in a nutshell.

The quilts I've enjoyed the LEAST while making them for other people were the ones where I really tried to follow their guidelines, spoken or imagined. Usually, they don't know anything about quilts and should leave those decisions to me!! LOL

I, too, made a list, which I will be constantly grooming and adding to as I excavate my sewing area/shelves.

It's good to make lists, though...

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

I like the disclaimer, that's why I make loose lists. You have some great projects planned for the year. Good luck with them all.

You are always so busy and you create such beautiful things. Just love your blog and look forward to reading all your accomplishments this next year. I would kind of like to make a list, yet i fear the pressure of it will make me procrastinate. oh what to do.....

Some great things on your list!!!

Love your sister's quilt LOL!
Perhaps a variation of a Dear Jane in unusual colours??

And I agree, I hate when I have time to do handwork or something small and it's not prepared (drives me bonkers!!)

Good luck with the list (we won't hold you to it, but we'll be impressed with what you get done!)

HI Sio,
Happy New Year to you and yours!
I Love the twisty quilt that your cat is sitting on- is it one of Bonnie's patterns or Mary Johnson's quilt patterns?
I am looking for a pattern for my brother in law - not sure what I am looking for but that may be it-
I love your list- it looks like you know what you want to get done and that is a valuable step in the process of getting organized to do so.

Happy quilting and good luck with your projects. I will look forward to reading about them in the upcoming months.

Warmest regards.
Anna

If you finish even half of what you have on your "To Do" list, you will have accomplished a lot. Good luck to you. Maybe I can get my Baltimore Album quilt done this year, too? I love your disclaimer statement.

That is quite a list. I had a long list last year, but I'm thinking less is more this year. Good luck with it all.

I know what you mean about the lists, I make lists, then don't always follow them! But list-making seems to empty my brain a little for incoming stuff!
