No longer a project...

Back in the late 90's how many of you started a Millennium quilt? How many of you finished it? Obviously by that question you know I didn't finish. This was to be the center...now it is headed to the orphan block pile along with 6 blocks of 25 2-1/2 inch squares. That is one way of moving a project off the UFO list!

My friend Maggie made this fun hat for me this Christmas
...finally it was cold enough early this morning to wear it. It has been so warm here the frogs had started coming out of hibernation and were croaking down by the river...that usually happens in March! (For a few weeks it can get really loud!)

My guild is starting its next donation quilt this month. The pattern is very unlike me...very bright batiks. As I write that I have to confess to a secret stash of bright batiks...I just don't use them often. Anyway, the "pattern" is based on an article in an old Quilter's Newsletter on doing a pieced group quilt. We need to find a multi-colored bright batik for the background...

I have 5 yards of this multi-colored rose fabric (makes me think of solar flares!) but the others in the committee want a black multi-colored batik...which would be nice if we could find it! If I don't find anything suitable at MJ's next week then I am going to make a strong case for the rose using a few blocks I made up just in case....

Yesterday I played with some left-over bits (1-1/2 inch finished blocks) to make a little quilt for my new doll bed. Beds look so lonely without a quilt.

The yellow star pops on the rose, I think it would be a good choice. Love the "new" doll bed. Looks like the perfect quilt for it with the small blocks.

Sorry to see the millenium star go in the closet - of course I am partial to blues & yellows, so I guess that's what catches my eye! I have a few UFO projects that have been sent off to lala land too, so I totally understand!

I agree with Elaine - the star pops on the rose batik. But then bright yellow pops on almost anything. It would be fun to see if other colors are as well suited to the rose. Black would be great, but really, really hard to find in batiks.

I never started a Y2K quilt, but I do have a large piece of M&M Y2K fabric in my stash. Maybe I should make one now! : )
Bright batiks have crept into my stash as well. I think your fabric would be a great background, but I do admit that black is so striking with batiks. Just bought a couple of yards of a black to go with my batiks.

It looks like you're making good progress on your many UFOs. Wish I could say the same. The new Hancocks catalog has some lovely batiks. I really like your choice though.

Hello to the BBC head - makes a great model for your fun new hat. I never started a millenium quilt - just as well since I wouldn't have finished it either. Great to have new stuff in your orphans to play with. I like that pink batik and the block you made with it. So, black batik eh. that must be why you all are headed for Mary Jo's. have an excellent time.

Lots of progress going on in your sewing room. I resisted a millenium quilt - as I knew it would languish - but I enjoy seeing them!
The doll bed is fabulous - I'm looking forward to seeing many more posts with it progressing and fully 'made'

Love your Millenium block!! And that is a super-cool hat. We suddenly have cold weather here too ;(
Our last craft meeting in the village was held at a ladies house so that we could see her doll's houses - the detail was amazing. Your little quilt is pretty dang teeny and very sweet indeed.

I actually did finish my millenium quilt, a king size. I had it quilted and the quilter quilted my name and my husband's name in the border with the year included.

I was not quilting at the turn of the millenium so don't have even a UFO (which I'm sure it would have been, lol). Lots of blocks would look good with your star, though. Love the doll bed project!

I do have a top finished, but still have lots of 2000 fabric pieces. Love your little doll bed! It will look terrific with a new quilt on it.

I did finish my millenium quilt - 2000 1-inch Christmas hexagons. It is one of my favorite quilts.

Love the doll bed - someday I hope to find one as well. It most definitly needs a quilt or 3 stacked on it.
