Back to the world

The photo of Goldie shows a bit how I have felt lately. Too much rain-rain-rain, a cold, an MS relaspe has made me a whiney-whiney woman. Anyway the sun came out yesterday and I am crawling back out into the world.

Just one example of how this past week went. I really wanted to go to my quilting group on Wednesday. I had printed out some paperpiecing blocks, made some examples (with low eyesight paperpiecing is more of a challenge than you would think!) and had packed up some "find a new home" bits and pieces of fabric. In the the morning it was raining so DH offered to pack the bags and my sewing machine in the car. A few minutes later his ride pulled in the driveway and he was off the London for the day. I finished my coffee, locked up the house, went to get my keys off the rack - no keys. Looked through my bags, the kitchen counters....(you know the drill.....) Then it hit me...DH must have put them in his pocket.....I stayed home.

(if you are thinking why doesn't she have a spare?...see my post on being robbed in Barcelona - whine.whine.whine)

I did pull some bright fabrics from the stash and start making blocks. I stacked my CD player with Bonnie Rait, Eurythmics (sp?), Tina Turner, and Blondie. Boy does that tell my age or what! The blocks will make up the core of a baby quilt for one of the Fairford quilters....I'll show them tomorrow.

My big adventure was a quick trip into Tewksbury for an auction. I picked up a cute tea service (bright yellow with roses on it!) and a hand crank sewing machine with some nice graphics on it. I haven't quite figured out how to use the machine so if any of you have a hint. (does it use a bobbin and if so where the heck is it!!!)

Oh Siobhan sorry to hear you've not been feeling too good - this miserable weather really doesn't help either - love the china - what a pain DH heading off with your keys - we've done that before too! How was Shrewsbury?

You go ahead and whine - you deserve to. Sorry about all the overcastness - it's been making me a bit blue too. Gotten really cold here but it looks like we might have some sun today - hope you get some of that too. Rest and relax you - no travelling for a bit. And don't mail Goldie away!

Wonderful shopping you've done there, I hope it makes up for your blues a little.

What fun finds. Sorry to hear about the bad week and not feeling well. Hope you get some sun and some warmth to cheer you up.

Also -- seems that blogland really is a small world after all. We have an acquaintance (not quite the right word here) in common. My Grandmother-in-law is from Augusta and is also a quilter. When I was showing her my blog she recognized Tonya and Tonya mentioned you had also belonged to the same guild. When I mentioned your name to her, she had such nice things to say about you. I knew you were sweet already from your comments on my blog -- but I now have first hand confirmation.

Oh no! Miss a quilting date with friends! That would really ruin my week too! Well, Goldie gave you some love. I was looking at antique sewing machines today at a recycle shop. I'd love to have one just as decorations, but no space and no money for now!

Oh the tea service and machine are wonderful! Hope your feeling better soon. I've been whining it is too hot! I see Tonya says it is too cold! See we all have something to be whiney about!

Hope you are feeling better. The weather doesn't help matters if you are feeling down. I know exactly how you feel. It is ghastly here. I don't think it will ever stop raining. How was the trip up to The Shropshire/Welsh borders? Did you go? The sewing machine looks similar to my old hand crank Singer. The bobbin could be a shuttle one.

What a pretty tea set!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loses days (or even weeks) to bad weather/bad health. You can see it's been a while since I've been on the computer...

Siobhan, sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well, hope it's getting better. The yellow china is so pretty. I notice nobody has clued you in to the antique machine yet! I can't help either. Love those old machines but don't know a thing about using them. Hopefully somebody will know.

The lovely machine will have a 'boat' or shuttle bobbin holder under one of the silver strips. The bobbin may look like a teeny barbell set. You will want to oil the heck out of every moving part, put paper towels under it to catch the runoff. If you should find a tiny piece of felt or wadding stuffed into a hole don't dig it out and throw it away , it is an oil reservoir, drip oil in it.

It will sew an awesomely beautiful straight stitch.
