Guild meeting
Twice a year my guild has a Saturday meeting that involves both the day and the night folks. To day was our spring meeting and it was great!First, we had the South Carolina Art Bra Traveling Exhibit. These were made last year and raises money for women without health insurance to get mammograms. Several members of our guild have had breast cancer so it is a cause we try and support. The exhibit is traveling until October when the bras will be auctioned off...heard there may be a book deal in the making. If you get a chance to see these they are a riot!
Some were beautiful, some were political and some were just fun. Then we had a great presentation by Dee Well, the Crazy Quilt Lady. I'll post photos of her work tomorrow. I was really impressed and had a great laugh at here stories. When she said she had thrown most of the pieces she had on display in the wash you could almost hear all our jaws hit the floor!
After lunch we had a great pattern and book exchange. We were also very fortunate to have a retiring/downsizing quilter donate several boxes of books, magazine and patterns to the guild. I got a couple of books on Quilt history that I am going to really enjoy reading. I hope she continues to come to quilt meetings. One of the books I almost bought when first started quilting in the late 1970's, but the store owner recommended another one and I only had enough money with me to buy one book (they were all of $2.50!)
I also ran by the Farmer's Market before the meeting and came away with more strawberries, some new zucchini and corn. I just bought a huge bag of Vidallia onions (sweet onions) from the 4-H kids so am set on those for a long time (though I do love them...no onion soup is better than one made with Vidallias!) Aren't the colors in that photo fun...could almost make and abstract quilt from it....
Got to run and get ready for tonight...going to see Hal Holbrook do his one man show on Mark Twain....been excited about this for weeks!
