Five good reasons....

I habitually use my kitchen counter for cutting fabric. I use the excuse that the lighting is really good in there (which is true) however the real reason is my sewing room is just too crowded!

So in an effort to get myself worked up to cleaning and organizing my sewing room I made a list of five good reasons that quilting and active kitchens don't mix....

5. Your DH cannot tell the difference between a pizza cutter and rotary cutter...tomato sauce is really difficult to get out the blade (fleece will get most of it out but then you can't get it out of the fleece....ask me how I know.)

4. Spilled coffee can camouflage even the brightest Kaffe flowers so they hide well in the civil war reproduction pile....heck, it can make anything look vintage...

3. It gets tiring running a magnet over the counters before you cook dinner but since you regularly pick up a half dozen pins you know you have to keep doing it....

2. Father-in-laws don't know the difference between a dishrag knitted for you by a friend and the civil war block you made last night...in his world they both are good for washing dishes...

1. To most of the population a miniature quilt left near a stove looks a lot like a potholder...

So I guess unless I plan to not let anyone into my kitchen I'd best get back to work on that sewing room.....

Too funny! Hope you can clear off a good space in the sewing room, or you might want to think about making Ami Simms' pizza quilt!

That was a hoot! I'm just sorry to think that all of those have probably happened! Eee-gads!

Thanks for the laugh!

I am Laughing... I too sew in my kitchen / dining area, and I was just thinking last night that if I ever left my rotary cutter out, my kids would use it to cut pizza!

Very funny! I never thought to cut fabric IN my kitchen, though I am mere feet away in my little corner of the family room. Thanks for the smiles :)

Huh. Apparently I am not the only person that migrates out of the sewing room in the "Move Down, Clean Cups" Alice-in-Wonderland parade from sewing room to basement to dining room.....all I want is a bit of open space!

LOL - I too have cut fabric in the kitchen because the height of the counter is better for my back....it does mean that cotton has been known to enter the food chain..but hey, cotton is a natural fibre..can't hurt right?

I have to laugh at this one. When my children were growing up, they thought everyone should have a sewing machine sitting at the end of the kitchen or dining room table because that's the way Mom did it! Thankfully they never tried to cut pizza with my rotary cutter though.

I hear ya on that crowded sewing room thing...I can barely move in mine so I guess I had better get busy too! You have inspired me to get busy on that! LOL

Oh dear! I have migrated to the lounge, but we are expecting overnight guests next weekend so I had better start hiding it in all my other good places LOL!

Ha! Never thought of using kitchen counters for cutting. Although, mine don't have much clear space either! Good luck with the organizing!

Love your list. Never done any sewing, cutting etc in the Kitchen. But I had taken over the dining room table waaaay back when.

Caught my husband heading out the door with some bias binding I had made. He thought it was scraps to tie the garden hoses together.

Great post! Living with a quilter can be a challenge for our families, but they get great perks, with wonderful quilts to brighten their days.

Too funny and so true! I guess I should be glad the lighting in my kitchen is lousy. :-)
