Mystery box

I'll admit there are still a few boxes from our move two years ago that still have not been unpacked. One marked "Linens" was in the back of the closet in my sewing room and finally was opened this past weekend...I guess our movers had never seen a box full of quilting UFO's before!
I showed a couple in my last post but this is the box that just keeps on giving...one big surprise was this piano key border that was made for a king size quilt. When I was finishing the quilt I looked everywhere (well, almost everywhere) and could only find three sides...so I ended up remaking one. Now I have the original 100+ inch piano key border to play with....First, I looked for a quilt in need of a border. No luck. Then I tried using the box of 4-patches with the piano key...not so much. Finally I cut the boarder into three pieces and auditioned fabrics for the alternate strips. The first group was too predictable and dark...the second took too much attention from the piano keys. This is the one I ended up choosing...
I think I'll baste it and handquilt some elbow/baptist fans. Maybe I'll call it the Goldilocks Quilt....

Made my Civil War block of the week...feels good to be back on track with this project again.

I like what you did with the found border. Looks like what some call a coin quilt. Finding those extra boxes must seem like Christmas.

Now that is how to make a quick quilt. Looks great. Finding that box's contents must be like finding treasure. ( unless you didn't like tham and that is why they became UFOs )

Isn't it amazing what you find in long forgotten boxes!!! You did well to utilise your lost border and make a nice little quilt out of it!!!

It has been hilarious (from way over here!) seeing where the movers packed fabric in your boxes. How fun to find a huge border to play with. I like the coin quilt rescue :)

Another bottomless box. I like what it produced for you and what you did to it. Wonder what else is in there?

I love your stories! Wasn't it fun to find UFOs you had totally forgotten? LOL! The piano keys look pretty cool with the new arrangement instead of a border.

That box has nice fabrics.

Wow, I wonder what kind of stuff I might have stashed away from my last move. I suspect nothing nearly as much fun - probably just loads of paperwork.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who loses projects for years at a time! It's like finding treasure when they finally "find" you!

Great that you are getting these UFO's to work on! I am doing a whole studio redo. I need to see what lurks in my boxes when I reorganize! lol
