Fall cleaning...

CW block 45: Port & Starboard

Sorry I've been out of blogland for a few days while we got a new computer up and running. It is amazing how much faster this one is than our old one! It is however just enough different to make things awkward...
Also I have been helping a friend with her search for a new dog...a lab to more specific. She is adopting Cleo from a shelter in South Carolina. Going to these shelters breaks my heart...but I have to say the folks working in the Aiken shelter really do a good job with the animals. It is so hard for me not to bring home another dog or cat every-time I go...this time I only brought home the scottie dog dish towel. You can imagine the sigh of relief from my DH on that one!
I've also been sorting, refolding and reorganizing some of my antique and vintage quilts. Every few months I like to take them out and check on them. As I am changing out the bed linens from summer to winter it just makes sense to to this at the same time. This redwork quilt top always makes me stop and think how lucky we are to have such a wide choice of fabrics to work with...imagine doing all that embroidery only to have the sugar print still show...

Love that Scottie dog quilt. So cute.
I bet DH had been holding his breath until your return.
We are very fortunate with all of our fabric choices. Sometimes we need to be reminded--thanks.

Your Port and Starboard block turned out very nicely.... and I love that scottie dish towel! Very cool...

I do love the "make do or do without" attitude of our foremothers... funny that I was admiring the red work and didn't even notice the faded printing...

I take a box of newspapers to the local Humane Society every month, and always linger to look at the kitties. Someday when my relentlessly crabby only-cat Tigger crosses over the rainbow bridge, I will bring a couple little kitties home after one of those trips, but for now I must resist. Love the scottie dish towel to pieces.

I have been donating $ to my local area shelter every month and sometimes cannot stand to go there because I want to bring all of those animals home with me, they do look so sad, and your right, it is heartbreaking.

I suppose the lady that did the redwork was upset that the print did not come out of the fabric, but I think it just adds to it's charm. We are indeed spoiled with all of our choices. We are on a list to adapt a dachshund from Doxie Rescue. Can't wait to get a new member of the family.

Pretty blocks! glad you are keeping up on this. The scottie towel is really cute. Definitely grateful for the fabric choices we have these days, but "make do" still happens when I try to shop from my stash and scraps :)
