The 1937 Sewing Club

Today I needed to stay home and get some Christmas decorating done so my DH went off to an estate sale by himself...

He came home with this quilt from Spartanberg, S.C.  Each block is signed and then embroidered with a woman's name..one has the date and the club name.

Only one block has a last name.  That may help when it comes time to do some research!

My cat Dobby is fascinated by this quilt.  I think they must have had a cat!

Need to find a place to hang this quilt...wish I could put my newest Christmas decoration with it.  A little depression era cut with a red truck bringing home a Christmas tree!  Seems like I'm seeing little red Christmas trucks everywhere this year!

Hubs should get extra chocolate in his stocking this year for finding such a wonderful treasure. Thank you for sharing.

It looks like many of the quilters had errors in the way they turned their 4-patches, but they didn't! Only a couple of the blocks don't match the pattern.

The block is Prairie Queen, by Nancy Cabot, and it's not symmetric. This website shows the original block as it was published in 1933:

In the first place, my hubby would never go to an estate sale if he wasn't being dragged by me. And in the second place, if by some miracle he DID go alone, he would come home empty handed. : )
Love this happy signature quilt.
