Buttons treasure!

It has been cold and rainy for the past two days. Not that I have seen much of it since I have been housebound with a cold! It seemed the perfect day to sort buttons.

In the past year I have bought several "sewing lots" at auction and still hadn't gone through all the boxes. The box in the photo above was one of my favorites. Lots of large sets of buttons or buttons close enough to be made into sets. At the bottom of the box was this little silver "purse."

When I opened it up there were these tiny tourist photos of Rome!

Anyway, with this cold that is about as much excitement as I can stand...more later.

What a pleasant little treasure surprise! It's just like those darling little trinkets that were always pictured in the Clotilde catalogs (that I used to get and drool over).

Drink lots of tea, Siobhan!!! And rest well and abundantly. ;-)

What a marvelous thing to find at the bottom of a bunch of buttons. I remember the button jar my mom had when I was a kid. I loved to play with it. There were fabulously beautiful old buttons in there. I remember her giving it to Goodwill when she was clearing things out - probably in the early 1960's. I'd give almost anything to have that jar of buttons back now. I can close my eyes and still see some of them - particularly a few shaped like three dimensional roses.

What a fabulous find! That cute little silver purse with the photos in it, for some reason, almost made me cry! Maybe it's imagining you, sick, sorting through some very cool buttons, and finding something even way more exciting! Glad someone saved that treasure for you.

What a neat surprise. I love buttons on quilts but haven't used them myself. Maybe I'll have to do a postcard just for fun.
