Back to normal

Well after a week of "all things golf" here in Augusta today we have a bit of rain and a bit of normalcy returning to the area. Yards still look beautiful, the golf carts are still in the front of local stores, an a half-million Mercedez is parked at the entrance of the next subdivision but those will all be taken care of soon (and unfortunately that includes the manicured yards!)
I did watch a bit of the tournament with my DH. It was exciting as area all Sundays at the Masters! In honor of the day I made some of these very fun pincushions that go into your spools of thread using a golf tee! (This really did make my hubby shake his head but during a commercial he went into his golf bag and fetched a few for me...good hubby....) The tutorial for this was at Polka Dot Pineapple's blog. The only thing I changed was substituting ultra suede for the felt - ony because that is what I had on hand! Also I used boiled wool/felt for the center and stufed it with wool scraps...I love how that feels on the needles.

My other big accomplishment this week -my water barrel is full! First I had to built up a stand for the barrel. That ment digging down a few inches, adding stones and sand then putting in a few large pavers to raise the barrel up so I could get a watering can under the spout. The guys came in and put the the gutters just in time for the rain the other night. Voila - a full rainbarrel! Now it may not do much for our lawn (watering restrictions are already in place!) but it should really help the 4x12 raised bed veggie and herb garden going in right next to it later this week.

Now, off to baste a quilt top...really need to get a few things moving this week!

Congratulations on your water barrel! I love seeing a gal doing her part for the environment. Love that little pincushion too :)
I followed your blog (from Bonnie Hunter's) during your MS week(after). I have been wanting to tell you how much I enjoyed it. Your writing is charming and funny, even on such important and painful subjects. Thanks tons for sharing your inside view.

I like your rain barrel idea! It looks as if it's actually meant to be there...and is usefully decorative as it sits upon its *throne.*

Love the little pincushion idea as well! Lovely hubby. ;-) Nice way for the two of you to share the love of golf! ;-)

It feels so good to be ecofriendly and doing a little bit to help save natural waters.
I like your pincushion idea as well.

thanks for visiting my blog and lovely comments.
The pheasants are everywhere at the moment and I'll try to 'capture' a spring lamb for you...

We have a rain barrel but it is not as fancy as yours! I want one! It is pouring down rain here in Indiana today. Sure could use it today. Hubby says we need 4 barrels to catch what we need for the lawn. I say do it!
XOXOXO Subee

We watched the masters as well, always a good relaxing Sunday afternoon! Although putting that rain barrel in sure wasn't relaxing, I'll bet you were glad when that was installed! Nice that it's finally full.
Cheers,
Dionne
PS - Love your pincushions.

Cute pin cushions! Nice of you dh to let you have some Tees.

The rain barrel is a great idea. I live in a dry area and we don't get any rain after June. So we irrigate from the river. How do you keep mosquitoes from laying eggs in you barrel?

we need to get our rain barrels in place! your talk of the North End made be homesick too. My dh lived there for a time and on Beacon Hill when I met him. We haven't been to Boston in a few years. Think its time for a visit!

i want a rain barrel!!! but then i'd be in big trouble ...... Colorado Water Law requires that precipitation fall to the ground, run off and into the river of the watershed where it fell ... rights to water are legally allocated in this state, so i cannot capture and use water to which i do not have a right ...... doesn't that stink?!? i guess that whiskey's for drinkin', and water's for fightin'

It looks like you've brought a bit of England home with you with your rain barrel :o) What with the English trend of being "green" :o)

I want to get rain barrels put up all round the house, but the amount of rain that comes off this roof would fill them up within minutes. Well, that's what DH says and he won't budge!

Great pin cushions.

I love the idea of rainbarrels. They are pretty useless out here where I live since we get practically NO rain all summer when I'm struggling to keep my garden alive.

The Masters was a nail biter at the end there. I wish Perry had won. We older folks need some heros to look up to, ya know.

Sio, you inspire me with the rain barrel. You know I've always wanted to do that. I thought your pincushions were cute, too.

Your golf pincushions are very cute - and clever!

We don't need any rain barrels here, as far as I can tell. We need it to stop raining most of the time! But I think yours is pretty cool! Must have been a job to get it in. And your veggies will love it this summer!

Cute ingenious pin cushions! We had a big rain tank that filled in one night too - it's a good feeling.

We caught some of the golf while we were gone too. My son's probably glad it's over too -- it's a busy week for them over at Lake Oconee too.

Love both the rain barrel and the pincushion, how clever to pop it into a spool of thread!
