The Masters invasion

For one week a year Augusta Georgia is on the map...for those of you who aren't golf fans, married to a golf fan or who hasn't accidentally had the gold channel on this week then you may not know what I am talking about.
The Masters is one of the oldest US golf championships and unlike others is played on the same course each year. That course is here in Augusta. The course is admittedly beautiful. Azaleas, dogwoods, and all sorts of other flowering bushes surround almost all the holes. The grass is better kept than my husband's beard...heck than almost all men's beards. They limit the number of attendees, no cell phones are allowed, and you can get a sandwich, beer and a candybar for about 6 bucks...how many sporting events does that happen at!And as much as the locals complain about the traffic it is nice to have all the activities going on and the yards and parks all cleaned up for visitors. We have had visitors in town for the Masters again this year. ( My Dh's family are big into golf.) Unfortunately my legs aren't feeling up to the long walks and I hate falling behind so I chose to be the taxi driver and cook this year.

I did have one great moment this week though...I thought a few small quilts given to me by friends had been lost in the move to England. Well, I opened a recipe folder and would you believe there they were!
This mug was made for me by my non-blogging friend Rachel. Isn't it fun! That is acually sort of how I've felt this week...not enough caffine on earth to get me going....

Tomorrow the house empties out and my Dh goes to play poker with his buddies...maybe I can get some real quilting time in!

I always hated Master's week when we lived there (96-2000) - my husband "worked" the tourney as security and always on my birthday. Every year, I still think "oh it is Master's week"

Ahh, "The Masters" or down here "The TPC" - it's busy but still kind of neat fun as well. You captured it perfectly when you said: "as much as the locals complain about the traffic it is nice to have all the activities going on and the yards and parks all cleaned up for visitors."

The great fun find from your friend - very creative and glittery.

I think you're hidey Goldie from me. Just noting a change...

My Honey has been parked in front of the TV for days watching all the warm-up shows. He even had me doing research on the course and I printed out a list of all the names of each hole and all the stats on who won what and when, etc, etc, etc. He is in heaven now as the game has actually started! I poke my head out of my sewing room every now & then to check the progress and admire the azaleas. I can't believe the humoungous crowds. How can anyone see anything? I think our seat in front of the TV out here in Ca. is much better. And it invoves no walking!

I've been to the golf course, although it wasn't Masters time of year. It's so beautiful. Glad you found your small quilts - love the one you have pictured. There are weeks when it almost seems you should take your coffee through an IV day and night, huh. Have a fun sewing weekend.

Reminds me of that movie, Tin Cup. I enjoyed that movie...loved the sound track.
How wonderful that you found the mini quilts. I hate losing things. It's like the world is put back together when I find even the smallest lost items.

Golf is not my cup of tea. Lol. There is a golf course close to our fields (a little river in between) and we think it's the ravens that pick up the golf balls and then drop them on our field. It's surely not the golfers. Lol. Then all winter the balls are popping up in the hay, scares the .... out of the cows.

Love the little quilt.
