A two block problem...

So I've decided it must be me...I have just lost the ability (or interest) in following directions. Once again I have made two blocks for my civil war block of the week...
It started out early on Sunday morning with my griping and groaning about 1-1/8 strips...I mean who does 1-1/8 strips? I cut out the log cabin block and started sewing. (insert apology to Barbara Brackman here....) and began to wonder how this would add up to an 8-inch block? Duh, it doesn't!

The directions read 1-7/8...a much more reasonable size strip! So I have two blocks...one following directions (for the most part) and the other using my silly strips...they will both go into the final quilt. Since I usually make bed size quilts the extra blocks will help though I guess then it will not be officially a BB CW block of the week...oh, well.On the marathon sewing side of my life I am getting to the end of the basic blocks for Roll Roll Cotton Boll. I'm at the point of hating the fabric...the pink is starting to remind me of Pep-to Bismol and the brown I'll leave to your imagination. I know I will like it again when the blocks start going together...just right now I have to fight to urge to pull purples and greens and maybe some Kaffe out of my stash and start sewing something entirely new....

I like your block with 1 1/8" strips. I did the 1 7/8" and it looks chunky. Nice fabrics too. Hugs

Bless you... same thing happens to me all the time... I would almost swear the numbers on instructions change when I'm not looking...

Hang in there with the RRCB...it will all be worth it and you will feel more kindly toward the pink and brown soon!!

I usually get the light and dark backwards on log cabin blocks...I really have to think hard on the first one before I start mass producing them chain-style.

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

Well two blocks are better than one so not to worry :-)
I was tempted sometime back by a pink and brown colour combo, but didn't do it, however I am sure when I see yours I will be tempted again. I still love your colour choices for your Double Delight and am therefore using a more controlled colour scheme for those Cathedral Stars as I want to end up with a quilt that I will love and use. Not that I don't love and use most of my quilts LOL

I like it better that you're rebelling at last against the directions and making things your own way. I love log cabins made with finished 1/2" strips.

Years ago, I made an entire quilt, something like 20 or 40 log cabin blocks, the wrong way. Seriously. So I put it all together, finished it, sold the quilt, and made mine the "right" way. It will be our little secret, okay?

Your RRCB sounds something like mine some time ago till.... I fixed the hst on the pieced blocks. Btw, not a single soul will blame you for sewing a placemat or mug rug with Kaffe fabrics in between 8^}, it makes a great difference!
It is "wise" not to make blocks according the directions, I make mine 6 inch wide. Suits me better, even on calculating the pieces. Maybe I'll make the blocks double,. as there is not enough wall left to decorate with another quilt...
Looking forward to see your finished RRCB and CW quilt!

I like your smaller logs. I've still not started my BB CWQ, and am so far behind now, eeeekkkk! I am getting caught up on so many things around the house though. Actually I'm a bit afraid of the CWQ, some of the pieces are so small and my skills are, well, just not great. I think there will be some sewing time in my day today to finish up a simple charity quilt kit from my daytime guild.

I can't wait to see your RRCB, but do understand about working on the same project gets to be boring. I'm not good at going back and finishing if I stop. You'll get there, just think of it as Strawberry and Chocolate Ice Cream :o)

I turned to the Log Cabin after a fitful afternoon with Texas Tears!
I hate 8ths never mind 16ths! I've been rounding up and using a scant 1/4 inch. so far so good, except for TT. more about that later this week!!

made your quiche yesterday with asparagus and mushrooms. that's dinner tonight!

Hang in there with the RRCB, I still have a LOT of string blocks to do, and the HST's too. I am a sewing maniac though getting a LOT of other stuff done while I take a break from those string blocks. But I am about ready to start again on that quilt so I can get it finished and say WOO HOO it is done!
