Orange Peel Quilt

Don't you just hate it when you see a post in blog-dom and want to get back to it but forgot where it was and who posted it? Duhhh....I so need more coffee.

Anyway, it this post mentioned Orange Peel quilts and it just happened I restacking my closet today so had one of my Orange Peel vintage quilts available to take a photo. It is on a queen size bed so you can see it is pretty large. It is all pieced though I think the blog group is going to applique (definitely what I would do!) The curved triangle between peels is quilted in the curved shape. I bought it in western Maryland in 1991...just realized that is almost 20 years ago!

I'll post more show photos tomorrow...

Yeah and what drives me nuts is that I bookmark the pages and then later on I find myself hitting the link and wondering... what was this for? I have to start making notes I guess.

Hi Siobahn,
I inherited an orange peel quilt top from my grandmother; she called it "Joseph's Coat". Mine is pieced, too, not appliqued. It has a scalloped edge, and I always wondered if I am up to the challenge of scalloped bias edge finish (I'm working on quilting it).
Thanks for showing yours.

I saw the applique sew along for that quilt at Don't Look Now. Her Kaffe version is stunning and your antique quilt is fabulous.

Oh, wow -- that is so gorgeous! That is definitely a pattern I want to attempt, although I'd go with the curved piecing I think.

That's a great quilt -- I don't think I've ever heard the term "orange peel quilt" before, but it sure is an apt description. I love the cheeriness of this one. I remember when I was in grade school my older brother showed me how to make this design with a compass, and I used to draw and color those "orange peels" all the time.

I do hate when I can't remember where I saw a pattern and forget to book mark it.
I love your beautiful vintage orange peel- the colors are gorgeous and so scrappy.
You do have the most beautiful vintage quilts-
Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Anna

OK, I'm in shock thinking about how 1991 is almost 20 years ago lol. Time is flying flying...your peel quilt is so pretty.

Love it love it! When I was in NW PA, there was a gal hand quilting a vintage top like this, and it was SO fun to see the fabrics that were in it!

Such a pretty quilt! It would be a perfect design for using up scraps!

Such a beauiful quilt. I don't know if I would have the tenacity to piece a quilt like that. I think the applique method would suit me best.

Thanks for posting this. I'm doing Kellie's challenge and it was really helpful to see a random, scrappy version of this quilt to compare to her single color version!
