Quilt visiting day..

During one of my guild talks a woman in the audience invited me to visit and see her collection. It was so much fun to view her quilts and hear their stories. She allowed me to take photos of several so I could share them with you.

Some of you may remember I went through a green and purple phase a couple of year ago. Well this quilt may have kicked me back into it again...It came from Michigan and has some restoration work on it. Some of the purples cracked after being folded for a long period of time. The peach color is the small geometric print that was reproduced for the Shelbourne several years ago. It makes me smile when I see the original fabric in old quilts. A Quilt Appraiser I was following back then called it 'Boxer shorts" fabric.

This purple Drunkard's Path was quite a sight. Never have I seen so much double purple in a quilt. There are areas that it is starting to flake...wonder if any of you have seen this with purple like this? Maybe that is why we see so little of it now?

This indigo bear paw with the delectable mountain variation border was a real surprise. I'm usually more of a scrappy quilt lover but this stole my heart...when I look at how this quilter finished her border by well, just ending them...none of this fussing around with miters and making it exact...it makes me smile. (Just a note the triangles in this border are about the size of a dime!)

Well, blogger is being a bit obstinate about posting photos this morning so I will continue with the quilt visit later....

Oh my gosh!!! What an array of absolutely amazing quilts here, Sio. I wasn't aware of the double purple problem. ? I love it so, too. bummer.

I am not a drunkards path fan but THIS ONE is really something else. Wow! And the indigo bear paw with the delectable moon variation border --- I'm in awe. Wouldn't you want to know that quilter? I like to think about what this person must have been like. Daydreaming…

How wonderful to share with us, Sio. Thank you!!!

Very fun -- thanks for sharing the trip! I am always fascinated by Drunkard's path, and somehow it seems right it should be purple.

Love the Bear Paw quilt, but I really love the purple Drunkard's Path quilt. Too bad the fabric is flaking. Thank your friend for allowing you to share the photos.

Thanks for sharing these lovely quilts. I haven't heard of the earlier purples flaking but they definitely fade to brown and have to be kept out of the light.

The word verification is quadies-how funny like the embroidered quadie quilts.
