Fabric Auditions....

Not much sewing done around here the past few days but I have played in the fabric piles and done a lot of auditioning (between rounds of coughing, hot tea, and lots of pills and potions...) My guild did however have our quilt (in photo above) that supports camp rainbow at the local Home and Garden show last weekend and it raised a lot of money for the camp. The camp is sponsored by a local hospital and allows critically ill children a chance to play like the rest of the kids for a week in the summer.(This is the cherry block I made for the quilt...)

Back to playing in fabric...I was trying to find the right center fabric for the star in my crazy liberated amish piece. This is the one that started by my slicing up an old UFO and then morphed into a project piece for Tonya's liberated Amish class. Funny how things morph no?

Anyway I am OK with the black star points (there are about 5 different shades of black in this quilt...mainly because of age and maker of the fabrics!)

My first thought was to go really light for the center square. I'm not even posting the photos because I hated it that much. It high-jacked the entire quilt (who knew light pink could be sooooo powerful?!) So I am down to two choices...a medium eggplant that shines because it is just off the brown and the maroon but nowhere else is there purple in the quilt top.

Then there is a bright blue of about the same value as the eggplant but which blends with the blues already in the quilt top.Enough excitement for the day...I'm off the wrap myself in quilts and sit on the back deck and get some sun on my face. Feeling the need for some vitamin D! Plus someone has to go out there and keep these daffodils company!

I really like the eggplant, I think the blue is too dominante. The eggplant let's you see the star.

I vote eggplant, the blue seems to standout a little too much. If you want to use a blue maybe find a less electric one. Whatever you decide I'm sure that it will turn out to be a beautiful quilt. Hope you feel better soon.

Those applique blocks are just beautiful. You and the other ladies outdid yourselves--congrats for raising a bunch of money!

Hmmm, I'm seeing a green center in your scrappy quilt....any chance?

Love the cherries block! Nice work and lovely gesture by your group raising the money with the charity quilt.
I think I'm voting for the eggplant in the Liberated Amish though the blue is sure a pretty contrast.
Keep those dafodils company, they are beautiful!

Wow, the group quilt is amazing and I love your cherries.
Initially I thought blue, but then when I looked for longer, I thought eggplant!

Hope you are feeling better Sio-
I think I like the blue but the eggplant does work too. They have different feels about them so I think it depends on which look you are going for- Both centers are strong enough to hold the other colors in the quilt.
Time to finish some school work- This weekend has been all school work and not much fun except for checking on my bloggy friends.VBG
I received Gwen Marston's Liberated Quilting book in the post yesterday so perhaps I will spend some time perusing it yet this evening. The Oscars will begin soon too. :O)
Have a great week.
Regards,
Anna

When I look at the version with the eggplant, I really notice the crazy pieced bits around it. With the blue version my eye goes right to the center of that star. either way this is fun!

Does this mean you went to the home show to sell tix even though you were really sick?

I like the eggplant best too -- the blue seems to bright for the quilt to me.

Hope you're feeling better!

First off, besides "I hope you feel better soon" I have to say how much I noticed your cherry block. I looked at it and noticed how well you do that entire applique vine and wood stuff. Excellent work! Sounds like a wonderful fundraiser, Sio.

I'm okay with the multi shades of black star points, too! Very cool. I have no vote on the center. I enjoy them both. Personally, I just like the fact you try stuff out like this and share.

You are so lucky to have your daffodils in bloom already. Mine are not even showing above ground yet!

I use black in every quilt I make but most black prints. I think your quilt looks great as you have it laid out.
