Today we added another sewing machine to the family...
found this 1950 singer at an estate sale. The cabinet is in good shape and I really liked the decals. Hardly any wear and it has this neat "badge" about Singer and 100 years of sewing.
Anyway, we saw it Friday but it was too pricey and I really don't "need" another machine. But I was still thinking about it this morning so we dropped by on the way to the supermarket and it was still there...and 50% off. (Of course my DH got them to take off a few more since by now the power-cord had gone missing...it was there on Friday!) My logic...I don't have a singer in a cabinet...and that knee control looks like fun...that is my story and I'm sticking to it....
So now the machine is all cleaned up, the cabinet oiled, and the stool that comes with it stripped of it's old coverings. Next step...figure out where to get a power cord (hints and advice appreciated) and recover the chair. The serial number on this is AJ766685...
Also, need to find a place in the house for it! Do you think my DH would notice if I moved his treadmill out into the garage? Ya...probably would....

Hi, I just love coming to your blog - I love all the quilts you make! I think I found your blog through Tonya. The Vintage Singer Sewing Machine Blog recommends this website to purchase Singer parts. http://shop.sew-classic.com/main.sc
Thanks for all you do!!!! Have a GREAT day! Kara
It's adorable! And a nice cabinet, too! Score!
Purdy!
I'll bet you are jumping with joy!!!
This is gorgeous... and obviously meant for you! Enjoy!
Great find and purchase-----was meant to be yours. For years I sewed with a machine in a cabinet; you will get used to the knee control in no time. Your new machine is a beauty!
I'll second Kara's recommendation for the sew-classic site. Jenny is knowledgable and reliable. Your machine looks like a Model 15. Can't see whether the motor is a "potted" gear-driven motor, or has a belt. If it doesn't have a belt, it's a 15-91, a wonderful machine.

Wow, looks like a great machine. That is too bad about the power cord--wonder what happened to it? Somebody must have needed it like you do now. : )
Cindy Peters--Lake City Mn. I've picked them up quite reasonably from my local Singer Store man.
Nice 15-91 I think--she will sew like a champ. I prefer a knee control.
Oh, she's a honey of a machine! You will love the knee control more than bending your ankle, I prefer it, too.
So do tell what did you finally pay for her? Whatever, it is a great investment!
What a beautiful machine! Lucky you! Bummer about the power cord but... a new power cord might be a good idea for safety reasons, you know!
I learned to sew on a machine like this with the knee control. Enjoy your new vintage machine.
yay! and boo to whoever stole the power cord. boo.
I have just caught up with the last few of your posts, as life has been getting in the way a bit!
Firstly love your new acqusition, that blue badge tells me it is a Centenary model, if you can get hold of the electric cord that would be very helpful LOL!!!
I love these old machines, and have a very small collection myself, I sew constantly on my 1958Singer 99k. You are probably aware, but if not then you may find this site helpful for dating old Singers. http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers
I also love that wonderful old quilt you DH found for you, and at such a great price too!!! Definitely send him out again LOL!!! Really enjoyed seeing all those gorgeous quilts hanging at the recent exhibition, some wonderful work there, I especially loved that small Christmas embroidery cushion using the vintage block, what a great way to give it a new lease of life!!!!!
Beautiful addition and it's my birth year! LOL Hope you are able to find a power cord.
adorable new addition! i am scouting a cabinet for my treadle now that she is home!
Contact Cindy Peters at stitchesintime@earthlink.net
She will have what you need and she is awesome to do business with.
Great find! Is that a Centennial edition? I recently bought my first Featherweight. (I say first because I suspect it is another addiction.) :-)
