Easy Street step one...

I got quite a bit done on Bonnie Hunter's latest mystery quilt, Easy Street, this weekend.  I am more than half finished with step one and since she only posted it a few days ago that is saying something.

Having done many of Bonnie's prior mystery quilts I am feeling sure that she started out with an easy step to lull us into a sense of accomplishment...I am sure I'll be splattered when the next step is posted on Friday!

I am looking forward to cutting into some of the fabrics I've put aside for this though.  I was surprised how many I had in the color scheme.  Maybe it is because I never put these in one quilt before!

I've also been working on some Christmas projects.  I have several of these vintage Dresden plate blocks.  I traced an embroidery design in the center.  Now I have to decide if I am going to use a variety of colors/threads

or just red or blue?  (more traditional...)  The blocks are 16 by 16 inches so I am making pillows/cushions.

What do you think?

I think yout colors are fabulous. And for the color of thread to use on the Dresden plate, I would choose the blue one.
Glad you are feeling better.

Since there is a lot of blue in the colors of the dresden, I would do blue.

I love lots of gaudy colors in the embroidery! Red flowers with orange pollen and three different greens for leaves. Do not worry about matchy-uppy just splash some color onto those big white circles. Have fun with it!

I have none of the fabrics Bonnie chose, so I will be subbing either plaid shirts or repros. But since I don't start until after the holidays, I will have a chance to see how the colors play together before I choose mine.

Beautiful old Dresden blocks. I think any of your color options for the floss would work--it depends on your objective. Do you want to continue the multi-colored, playful theme, or subdue it just a bit with a constant floss color?

Congrats on fulfilling that first step! I agree, she does ease people into her flytrap :)

Me, I think sticking to either red or blue would be charming--and a lot simpler!

Wow those are big Dresdens, I'm leaning towards the blue. There is so much colour happening in ring, my tendency would be to go mono-colour in the center. It is nice to see someone else has some darker greys, if they are to be shadows, I've definately got dark shadows.

OH NO! I was congratulating myself on how quickly Week 1 came together. Now I'm concerned.

I only started pulling fabrics for Easy Street today! lol But I'm on my way with the cutting and sewing, and will try and keep up this time! And for the floss.....I'd go with all the colors, and especially orange! Lots and lots of color! Woohoo!

I have a few of these Dresdens with the big holes too. Didn't know what to do with them. I love your embroidery idea!

I love seeing what everyone has pulled out for the background and their choice for constant! Thank you for sharing yours, Sharyn
